I learned to knit as a young girl from my left handed mother. I should have known I would never get it 100%. However, up until about two years ago I only knew how to knit and I knit scarves and pillows as gifts. I could make these because they only involved making straight lines. One day I was curious about the art of crocheting, bought a hook and looked up a video on you tube. The internet is a great learning tool and between various blogs and online videos I was able to crochet whatever I can think of. This is what inspired me to open my Etsy shop. I became various curious about the two schools of fiber art and was curious about what people preferred and why so I put the question out to the social media world. These are just a few of the opinions about the subject. Please feel free to share your own thoughts.

So what do you think? I have a very strong opinion about why I prefer crochet and most of the people I asked are in the crochet community. Knitters please come forward and tell my why knitting is better!

Ooh you have good arguments for both. I learnt to crochet first but spend more time knitting now. Hmmmm…if I was to chose it would be crochet just because it’s quicker and quirky.

I’m a crocheter who dabbles in knitting. I wouldn’t say that one is better than the other. They both bring great things to the table. The one thing that has always baffled me is why people don’t combine them more in patterns!

I am by no means an experienced knitter, having just relearned the art of knit 1, purl 1 again only recently. I first learned to knit over 20 years ago but then got bored and put my needles down and didn’t pick them up again until just recently. I must say I enjoy knitting and am still learning the whole process. Can only make scarves and dishcloths and blankets at this point. I’m not experienced with socks or beanies yet but hope to learn soon. First need to really feel comfortable I guess. I also enjoy crocheting and have much more experience here. You are right, fixing a dropped stitch is easier with crocheting than in knitting. When I drop a stitch while knitting I have a full-on panic attack…lol! That’s the only problem I have with knitting. Hard to say which I like more. I consider both a beautiful art.

I really can’t decide! Crochet is more free form for sure, but knitting makes an integral fabric that has crosswise stretch. I will say this though: knitting is alot more expensive because of the different size needles and circular sizes that each new project sometimes requires.
